What is Roof & Ceiling Inspection and why it matters

Inspecting roofs and suspended ceilings is a critical part of building maintenance, construction quality assurance, and facility management. However, accessing these areas—especially in large industrial halls, warehouses, and commercial buildings—can be dangerous, time-consuming, and expensive when done manually. Using ladders, scaffolding, or lifts adds cost and increases safety risks.

Karelics introduces an innovative autonomous inspection solution using compact mobile inspection robots. With our system, difficult-to-reach spaces can be inspected safely, quickly, and with full visual documentation—without human presence in hazardous zones.

The Challenge

  • Reduced inspection effort by removing the need for scaffolding, lifts and repeated manual access to hard-to-reach areas like slides and pool ceilings.
  • No personnel in hazardous zones – the robot takes over inspections at height and above suspended ceilings.
  • Structured, repeatable documentation – every finding is linked to building plans and can be revisited in future inspections.
  • Geo-referenced follow-up – during the next inspection, previously marked points can be re-checked quickly and precisely.

Our Autonomous Solution

Karelics offers an AI-driven autonomous inspection platform using compact mobile robots—perfectly suited for navigating indoor and elevated environments.

The same proven platform already used in water parks now brings new value in inspecting rooftops, steel structures, and ceiling voids, and can run on Leo Rover and other compatible robotic platforms.

How it works

1

Digital preparation

Ceiling or roof plans are analyzed in advance and imported into the Karelics platform. Inspection routes and checkpoints are defined digitally.

2

Autonomous mission

The robot navigates along the planned route, avoids obstacles and records high‑resolution video and photos at each control point.

3

Structured documentation

All inspection data is stored in Karelics Cloud, clearly linked to the customer’s plans. Operators can review, annotate and mark points of interest for future inspections.

Features

Customer story

Barbarossa Thermen: Sauna und Schwimmspaß in Göppingen.

Barbarossa-Thermen water park in Göppingen

At the water park, suspended ceilings and roof areas above slides and pools were difficult and costly to inspect with scaffolding or lifts. A manual inspection would have meant significant effort, safety risks for staff working at height, and no consistent way to document findings against building plans.

Together with our partner BauMotor, we deployed a compact inspection robot running Karelics Brain. The inspection routes were prepared digitally from the ceiling plans and imported into the Karelics platform. During the mission, the robot autonomously followed predefined checkpoints and captured all relevant visual data. After the mission, Barbarossa-Thermen and the local utility SWG received a complete, standards-compliant overview of the ceiling condition – without erecting scaffolding or interrupting operations.
